WP7c: Algorithmic demands of future architectures

Further increases in computing power will come from hierarchical forms of parallelism such as many-core CPUs or multi-floating point unit GPUs (Graphical Processing Units). Exploiting the trends of massive, hardware-enabled concurrency and database mining is an integral part of computing in the foreseeable future. Within this work package we research and disseminate international trends in algorithm design for HEC and fast I/O to place the UKTC's production codes in a position to capitalise on future HEC architectures and remain world-leading.
